Feedback and Synthesis

The inspiration for this work came from using the physical synthesizer Sculpture in Logic Pro X and the granular synthesis example interface in the multimedia graphical programming software Max/MSP Jitter. I noticed that sound signals were continuously pushed along a linear timeline within the graphical interface. When encountering virtual receptors or external selections and interventions, they could trigger sound and visual actions. I therefore attempted to extend the interface of these two synthesizers, allowing them to continuously generate sound in a three-dimensional space.
This work uses Max/MSP Jitter to generate images and sounds. I placed a red grid at the world coordinate centre and used spheres, lines, and cubes, continuously moving them between z coordinates of -100 and 100. When objects touch the red grid, they trigger their respective tones.
In the middle section, I fed the sound into a feedback system where a sequence of sequencers and feedback sounds were synthesized. I then transformed the sound values into image movements, creating an interaction between sound and image. Using external control, I processed real-time images and sounds, aiming to let viewers experience the inseparable connection between image and sound.
